Many printers,
large and small, do not have presses capable of printing envelopes.
Even many small printers who may have the proper presses may
not have purchased envelope feeders for those presses. They therefore
find it more economical to have National Envelope print the envelopes
for them. In fact, some printers have found this to be more profitable
since they can use their presses for work more commonly done
day in and day out, without changing the presses, adding a feeder
or making other adjustments necessary to run envelopes.
Most paper sales
personnel, of course, are accustomed to handling orders for printing.
However, once steps necessary to handle this type of order are
learned, one soon realizes the opportunity to not only serve
a customer beyond their paper requirements, but an opportunity
to improve even further the profitability of envelope orders.
Printed orders generate repeat business.
It is important
for paper salespeople to understand the different printing processes
utilized in the production of printed material and particularly
in the production of envelopes. The more knowledgeable you are,
the more you can be helpful to your customers assisting them
in selecting the proper paper and envelope for the job.
Within this section
is a dissertation on each of the printing processes with samples
as reference.
Your knowledge
of the printing process becomes particularly important when an
envelope job is going to be printed by National Envelope or under
National Envelope's direction for your printer or customer.
1. When you are
communicating your customer's needs to National Envelope, your
customer will expect the proper printing process and quality
they require. If you were to request flexography and the customer
wanted offset printing, there is a possible rejected order. Least
of all, you will have a very dissatisfied customer.
2. The cost differences
between processes are such that if you were to ask for a quote
using a lower cost process and the order was then placed for
a more expensive process, you may find a profitable order will
become a loser due to the increased cost of printing your order
to satisfy your customer's requirements.
